Love surrounds us

it is good to come together
in our friendship to remember
all the reasons hope is in our hearts

hallelujah hallelujah
Christ our joy and strength
hallelujah hallelujah
Christ our joy and strength

Listening to Sara Groves on the way home from my gramma’s house today, Sara and I talked about the 12 months that have passed since we last celebrated Christmas with our family and how blessed we are to be where we’re at right now – both working and living closer to family.

It in these times we spend with loved ones that it is so clear how blessed we are and how good we have it to be so surrounded by love.

Unfortunately, today has also been a reminder of how so often in life there are more questions than answers. My friend CJ slipped on some ice yesterday while delivering a package for UPS and suffered severe trauma to his head and lower back. Last I heard, he was still in intensive care in a drug-induced coma. On an even more tragic note, we also learned this morning that a family friend decided to take his own life.

Through it all, I take comfort in the words of Sara Groves when she sings, “Christ our joy and strength.” It’s not for nothing that in spite of all the craziness of life there is hope in our hearts.

Merry Christmas.
